Lifelong Learning

The Office of Alumni Relations in conjunction with the University of Richmond Alumni Association, University College/School of Continuing Studies Alumni Association, and several campus departments is pleased to offer alumni these opportunities for continued learning.

Alumni College
Each year, alumni are invited to return to the University for Reunion Weekend.  The weekend schedule offers several alumni college sessions, many featuring UR’s faculty and staff members.  For more information on this year’s schedule, please visit the Reunion Weekend page

University of Richmond Libraries
University of Richmond alumni may obtain a Special Borrower’s Card free of charge.  With this card, alumni may check out up to five items at one time with one renewal.  The following may be borrowed: books in the Boatwright and Music Library collections; audiobooks in the Media Resources Center; and books from the Law School Library.  For additional information about borrowing privileges, download the extensive listing of libraries benefits (pdf download) available to alumni or visit the library's borrowing site.  The library’s catalog is also available from off-campus.

Access to the Expanded Academic Index
Alumni may use the Expanded Academic Index from their home computers. This third party database provides free access to more than 2,000 scholarly journals, news magazines and newspapers.  To use this service, alumni must register and create an account. If you are currently logged into UR Online, simply click on the link "Expanded Academic Index" in the UR Online Members navigation menu on the left side of this page.

Access to Computers at Boatwright
Alumni may use on-site computers in the libraries for research purposes.  For additional information on computer access guest policies consult on site or by telephone (804-289-8669) with personnel at Boatwright’s Main Service Desk.

Osher Institute
The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute has been established at the University of Richmond School of Continuing Studies through a grant from the Bernard Osher Foundation of San Francisco. It is a membership organization that serves adults ages 50 and older who are seeking opportunities for intellectual stimulation in a community of lifelong learners. 

Regional Programs
Join other University of Richmond alumni for events in your own backyard.  Regional programs feature University faculty and staff, as well as social and cultural gatherings.

School of Continuing Studies Classes
Alumni who received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Richmond School of Continuing Studies, University College, Jepson School of Leadership, Robins School of Business or School of Arts and Sciences are eligible for a 50% discount in SCS undergraduate credit classes (except for summer school courses/programs or already discounted programs).  Registration is on a space-available basis.  No discount is granted for the Teacher Licensure Program.  In addition, University of Richmond alumni with a baccalaureate or advanced degree are entitled to a 25% discount on ONE class per semester for a OCPE non-credit class (discount does not apply to travel programs, conferences, special programs, membership fees, certificate programs or application fees).  Contact the School of Continuing Studies at (804) 289-8133 for details before attempting to register.

Travel Programs
Each year, University of Richmond Alumni Association offers travel opportunities to UR alumni and friends at discounted rates. These trips are a great way to see the world, stay connected to other Spiders, and continue lifelong learning!
